Running, it is all that he can think of as his feet hit the pavement taking him in an unknown direction. His lungs fight for air as his heart hammers crazily in his chest. Fatigue blankets him and yet he continues to run like the wind. Images of Kyle flood his mind as well as the horrible confrontation between him and Jim. Unaware of his surrounding, he doesn't see the discarded newspaper as he steps upon it, losing his balance and crashing to the hard pavement below. "FUCK" he screams anguished as he picks himself up and scans his surroundings. Small tormented peels of laughter escapes from his bloodied face as he takes in the sight of the building in front of him. People stare at the man that laughs crazily for no apparent reason. Little do they know that there is a reason for his madness, for it is this same building that has brought him the happiest and the saddest moments of his short life. It was this very building that he saved the life of the woman that he once felt was his soul mate and it was also in this building that he was alerted to the death of one of his best friends. With a swipe of his hand, he breaks into the CrashDown Café as he makes his way to the table that has become so much a part of his life. Sliding into the booth, he sinks down the greasy pleather seat until he is huddling under the table alone with his toughts and his pain.

"Really Sean...I'm ok" Liz assures him as she walks into the CrashDown, trying to get away from the man that has hounded her from the first day he returned to Roswell. "I just need to spend some time alone...to make sense of what we've learned. Thanks for taking me home...I'll call you later" Pushing the insistent man out the door, she locks it and makes her way to her room so she can be alone to collect her thoughts. A noise catches her attention as she passes one of the many booths in the restaurant. "Hello' she cries out a bit frightened since the Crash Down has been closed for the last few hours. "Is anybody there"

Walking towards the noise, she slowly bends looking under the table to find a crouching, sobbing Max. "Max.." she whispers crawling under the crowded table where he sits. "Max...what the hell are you doing here"

"I'm sorry...I didn't know where else to go" he sobs broken hearted as he looks deep into the eyes of the woman that he knows he has hurt deeply with his earlier confession. "I'm sorry Liz...I just didn't know where else to go"

Still hurt by his words of devotion for Kyle, Liz pushes her pain and anguish aside in an attempt to help the man that she still loves with all her heart and soul. "Shhh" she whispers, trying to sooth him as much as is allowed in the cramped area. "No matter what happens between us...you know that can always come here...you can always come to me. Max...come with me" Taking his hand the two crawl from under the cramped table, as Liz leads him to nearby table. "Sit here...I will be right back"

He watches as she walks away, leaving his alone with his jumbled thoughts again, only to return with a plate of food and a drink. "Something tells me that you haven't eaten since earlier today" he hears her say as she places the dish before him. "I know that we have a lot to discuss...but eat first and then we can talk for as long as you like"

"I don't deserve you" he states earnestly.

"No...you don't" she replies with a weary smile. "But you stuck with me...regardless"

"Thank you...you don't know how much that means to me"

        "Your welcome...now eat"

Obeying orders, Max digs greedily into the sandwich and bag of chips that Liz has put in front of him. The truth was he couldn't remember the last time he had eaten that day. Breakfast had been spent as every morning was spent making out with Kyle on the couch till they reluctantly had to break apart to leave for school. Lunch was spent together with Kyle in the erasure room as he attempted to make out with him. Yet another batch of tears glisten in his eyes as the thoughts of this afternoon replay in his already muddled head. Thoughts of food now forgotten Max looks to Liz a glimmer of hope in his eyes. "Liz...I know that I don't deserve this.... but I need your help. I need you to distract Valenti so I can sneak into Kyle's room and heal him. I need to do this...I have to or I think that I just might lose what is left of my sanity"

Unable to deny Max anything, despite the pain that he has caused her, Liz slowly nods her head as she reaches out her hand to him. "Kyle is my friend too...and anything that you can do to ease his sufferings... I will be there with you every step of the way"

"Thank you. I just want you to know that I do love you Liz..." Max whispers reassuringly giving her hand a slight squeeze. "and I never meant to hurt you. But...what I feel for Kyle...it just happened. It surprised me just as much as it did you...but it feels right. I love him...I want to spend the rest of my life with him. I think that we both know that you and I are better off as friends. We work well together as a team...just not as a couple" Not thinking that it is possible, Max's heart breaks a little more as he watches the tears glistening in Liz's eyes slide down her beautiful face. He knows that he doesn't deserve the love and friendship that she has for him and that he was being selfish in asking her to help him heal the lover that he broke her heart for. But he knows that he must, he knows that despite the damage that he has inflicted to her already wounded heart that Liz Parker will stand beside him come what may until the end. "Liz..."

"You really do love him...don't you" she asks quietly, absently mindedly wiping at her spilling tears.

"I do...I can't explain it Liz. I never wanted to hurt you...but I seem to be doing it time and time again. I don't know what I will do if anything happens to him. I don't think that I can live without him by my side"

"There was a time when you felt that way for me" she whispers, removing her hand from within his as she begins to pace the aisle of the restaurant. "I can't claim to understand how you went from loving me to loving him...but I meant what I said Max. I will always be here for you...for the both of you. I promise. So come on what are we waiting for...lets go heal Kyle"

"I love you Liz...I always will and thank you" he exclaims happily, jumping off the chair that he sits on, pulling her tightly into his embrace.

"I love you too. Now...lets get going"
